About Charles
Charles Phillips founded Double Rebel in 2007 as his love of graphics and programming turned from a lifelong hobby into serious business.
Charles was fascinated with the mathematical beauty of graphic design at an early age. Beginning with his Apple II, he learned to paint in greenscale and write Apple Basic.
At 12 he made his first foray into web design as a 'creative writing' assignment. This GeoCities page has thankfully been lost.
He then continued working in layout for his highschool paper and the Indiana Daily Student, where his love for type grew.
At 18, years of staring inside at screens and numbers had left him wanting. Friends introduced him to foodservice, and he spent the next 6 years bartending.
With the freedom to travel, Charles lived in 5 different cities, found some international culture, and worked over 20 different jobs.
Each job had one common thread -- whether it was driving a truck, programming a spreadsheet, or designing a menu, Charles' technology skills came into play.
In 2006 an opportunity in Seattle for a sales position with green products surprisingly turned into a design position. While strengthening the brand with a refreshed logo, website, and packaging, business on the side continued to grow by word of mouth.
Thanks to the support of his clients, Charles began working full time on Double Rebel in January 2009.
